What is Project: Maple Lake
The easy answer to this is the seeking of the truth for exactly where our lot lines end when it comes to not only the waterfront, but also for the road allowances, forced roads and truly all municipally owned property.
When it comes to Maple Lake, our surveyor from McKecknie Surveying in Kitchener spent 3 days in/around the lake gathering data that corresponded to the original 1860 Crown survey of our township.
RE-establishing the ORIGINAL SHORE ROAD ALLOWANCE is our key to success. Our last meeting with the surveyor verbally confirmed our suspicions that the entire OSRA is now under water due to flooding. This is not a secret to anyone who knows the history of the Haliburton Highlands.
...we essentially have 2 options - a court action that could cost possibly $40,000 and take a year or more, or, a Boundaries Act Application. The BAA is approx. $500, plus $1 for each additional property (approx 270 more on Maple Lake). The benefit of this is a) no court fees b)only paying a surveyor to present our information to a surveyor/judge c) an estimated timeframe of 5-6 months.
It is important to note, the HCLA is required to notify each property owner on Maple Lake about the application. This action can only be a win for all the landowners. If our application fails for any reason, property owners will NOT lose any of their land. However, if we are successful, most if not all will benefit from our success to varying degrees.
While we await the final report from the surveyor, we are attempting to contact as many residents as possible so that we can arrange in person and ZOOM meetings to fully explain all of this. It may seem daunting or overwhelming at first, but it is really quite simple when explained in it's entirety.
We don't want any hidden fees or surprises. The only request we are asking is that those looking to reap the reward of the Boundaries Act Application assist in it's expense by purchasing a 1 year OLA/HCLA membership for $60 per household. That's it. After that we will fundraise any other shortfalls. If you have any direct questions please email
or
As soon as we feel confident that the majority of the residents have been contacted we will post the meeting time/place and ZOOM link here for everyone to be part of. We will try to give everyone lots of time so that questions can be submitted so that we can try to be as efficient as possible for the meetings.
We can only do this with everyone's assistance. If we are successful, and we truly believe that we have all the evidence to do so, EVERYONE on Maple Lake will benefit. There is strength in numbers.
